After splitting from Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden in November last year, romance is on the cards again for teen idol Hilary Duff. The actress enjoyed an evening out at Hollywood hotspot Opera on Monday night with her hockey ace beau Mike Comrie, before jetting off with him to the Big Apple on Tuesday. There they enjoyed a stroll hand-in-hand down Fifth Avenue.

While it's still early days for the twosome, things couldn't be going better according to sources close to the couple. "They're always together and can't keep their hands off each other," commented a friend. The multi-talented actress and singer first went public about her relationship with the Canadian-born New York Islanders hockey player during a July 25 dinner date at celebrity hotspot Georgio Baldi in Santa Monica, California.

Not long afterwards Mike accompanied the 19-year-old to Winnipeg where she kicked off the Canadian leg of her North American Dignity tour. The trip also gave him the chance to show her round his Edmonton home town. And if love continues to blossom it may well be Hilary's turn to support the 26-year-old sportsman when he takes to the ice for the 2007-2008 NHL season in early October.

MSN Entertainment reports that Hilary Duff has send a text message wishing with the good ones to the upcoming child of Nicole Richie and her Joel Madden.

Has Hilary Duff's rumored new romance with hockey player Mike Comrie thawed her chilly feelings toward ex-boyfriend Joel Madden?

That's the word from Us Weekly, which says the toothsome starlet, 19, sent a text message to her self-described "first love" after his impending fatherhood with Nicole Richie was confirmed during their recent sit-down with Diane Sawyer. "After they appeared on 'Good Morning America,'

Hilary breezily texted Joel congratulations on the pregnancy, and Joel warmly responded," an adverb-happy mole tells the mag. Duff's alleged well wishes are quite a change from her previous stance on their romance, which began shortly after she and Madden called it quits late last year after two and a half years of togetherness.

"With the amount of time that we had invested in each other, I felt disrespected that he moved on so quickly," she recently sniffed to Seventeen. "But some people don't want to deal with how they feel, so they cover it up. Rebound! I shouldn't say that. You know what, though? Now I don't care."

According to Us, Duff's kinder, gentler attitude is a result of her budding romance with Comrie, 26, whom she's reportedly been seeing for several weeks. "Hilary plays it coy, but she's really into him," says the snitch, who describes the lantern-jawed New York Islander as a "great guy." "He's the first she's been serious about since splitting with Joel ... They're just great together."

She has sold more than 13 million CDs, made movies, and created a perfume and clothing line. Tonight she brings her tour to the Pacific Coliseum. Buzz Bishop spent 24 seconds with Hilary Duff on the phone from Edmonton.

24hrs: What's it like being young in Hollywood? Are there people dragging you into trouble, or do you have to go and find it?

Hilary: It's everywhere, it's really easy to find it. I love L.A. I live there, it's my home, but it's really easy to lose yourself in that town. You have to really know what you believe in and stick with it and have good friends.

24hrs: So being focused on yourself and what you want to put out there has kept your head above it?

Hilary: That and my family. I don't like to live very publicly, like so many people do. I feel like I've worked so much as it is, I want privacy.

24hrs: For most of us, running into an ex at the mall would be painful. How is it for you to see your ex (Joel Madden with new girlfriend Nicole Richie) paraded across the tvs and tabloids this week?

Hilary: It's not really a problem for me to deal with it. I want them to be happy. Joel and I ended on very good terms and we ended knowing that it was the right thing to do and it made us both happy. So it's not hard for me to see it.

24hrs: You still balance music and movies very well. You've got three more movie projects coming down the line, including War Inc (with Ben Kingsley and John Cusack) set to debut at the Toronto Film Festival. You've said this role is controversial. What's it all about?

Hilary: It's a dark comedy. It's about war and how Americans go into a place and blow it up and take it over and try to act like heroes. It's pretty messed up. I play this over-sexed pop star that has a big spark, but not much to back it up. One thing that was so much fun about doing this movie, is that it's nothing like who I am. It's nothing like my music, I look totally different in it. It's an artsy independent movie and getting to work with all those people was a treat.

24hrs: When did you become a hockey fan?

Hilary: I don't know anything about hockey.

24hrs: Well, with Mike Comrie (NY Islanders) on your arm in some photos, you're going to have to learn something.

Hilary: Do you want to give me a crash course?

24hrs: Get down to Vancouver and get a good Canucks jersey on your back!

Hilary: (laughs) Okay.

In an exclusive interview with 24Sizzler.com, Gary Comrie, a cousin of New York Islanders player Mike Comrie, 26, who’s just kicked off a steamy courtship with Hilary Duff, 19, says it’s no shocker the hunky hockey player has landed such a hottie.

“Well, I’m not surprised,” Gary tells 24Sizzler.com, from his home in Edmonton, Alberta. “He’s a good guy, but we don’t see much of him. He’s been living in L.A. Mike’s been in the news quite a bit lately.”

Gary adds that his 5-foot-9, 185-pound cousin lives near his parents: Although some reports say Mike’s parents live in Edmonton, 24Sizzler.com has learned from Gary they do indeed have a home in the Canadian city, but they live primarily in Newport Beach, Calif. — making a meet-and-greet with Hilary very easy! Also, Mike’s dad Bill does not have much of a hands-on role with The Brick, a Canadian furniture and appliance store chain the family runs.

Gary says he’s not too familiar with Hilary, saying “I’ve heard of her from time to time.” But he’ll have a chance to see Hilary in action, when she performs Wednesday night in Edmonton, Mike’s hometown. Plus, Mike’s parents are slated to return to Edmonton next week, when the Comrie clan will get the low-down on Hilary!

EDMONTON - Teen pop star Hilary Duff acknowledged Friday she's been dating hockey star Mike Comrie but says they've only been out a couple of times and they're not "boyfriend and girlfriend."

Duff, who performs at Rexall Place next week, also says she knows nothing about hockey but added: "Maybe I'm going to have to learn."

"Mike and I met a week ago, and we've been out a couple times, and it's like, he's great, he's really nice," the singer-actress said by phone from a plane on the tarmac at the Los Angeles International Airport.

"But we're not, like, boyfriend and girlfriend. You know, we've been to dinner a couple of times."

Will the Edmonton-born former Oiler, who now makes his home in Los Angeles, be coming to Edmonton when Duff performs at Rexall Place next Wednesday?

"I'm not sure," she laughs. "Maybe you'll see him there, maybe you won't."

Celebrity blogs around the world have been abuzz since the 26-year-old hockey player and the 19-year-old singer were photographed leaving a Santa Monica, Calif. restaurant on Wednesday evening. The reaction from TMZ.com blog readers has been mixed, from comments on Comrie's looks (some say he is big-headed, others say he is handsome), to hate-filled diatribes from hockey fans who feel jilted because of his unhappy departure from the Oilers.

Comrie was traded from the Oilers to the Philadelphia Flyers in 2003. He most recently played for the Stanley Cup finalist Ottawa Senators, but has since signed with the New York Islanders.

Born in Houston, Texas, Duff didn't grow up surrounded by sticks, pucks and nets, and she readily admits that she's new to the whole hockey thing.

"I was actually laughing with my friends, because I don't know anything about hockey."

Duff has also learned from experience about how tough it can be to maintain a relationship while on the road, touring constantly.

Her balanced view of the challenges posed by her career, and the trouble it can cause when it comes to sustaining a relationship, help her to keep her personal life in order.

"I think that I've never had it any other way, you know," says Duff, who spent most of her teenage years in show business.

"Of course, when you're younger, you have little boyfriends at school and stuff, and that doesn't really count.

"But the one serious relationship that I did have (with Good Charlotte vocalist Joel Madden), I was on tour for most of the time, and so was he, so it's like that is what's normal, and you just learn to deal with it.

"Sometimes it's good, you know," she continues. "It's definitely hard when you really care about someone and want to spend all your time with them to constantly be away and be in different cities and be in different time zones, and have totally different schedules. It gets kind of frustrating.

"But it's also nice to get to miss someone. We always want what we can't have, and living my life right now, if someone understands, then great. I'll work hard and they'll work hard, or whatever.

"But if not, it's not meant to be. That's my positive outlook on it," she laughs. "Sometimes it's not always that positive."

Duff kicks off her Canadian tour on Saturday in Winnipeg, with a stop in Edmonton on Wednesday.
