Duff Dishes Out
Pop singer Hilary Duff dished up chicken stew for hundreds of homeless men in Edmonton on Wednesday as part of her personal campaign to raise awareness about poverty and hunger.

The teen celebrity served the hot lunch and dessert for an hour at a downtown emergency shelter, and visited the nearby headquarters of Hope Mission, a Christian social care agency.

“The Hope Mission was a priority and we wanted to lend a hand,” she said after completing her kitchen shift. “It’s so rewarding for me. I love to get down and dirty and help out.”

The singer kicked off the Canadian leg of her North American Dignity tour Saturday in Winnipeg.
In Edmonton, she was soliciting non-perishable food donations from concertgoers, which will be distributed in the city through the food-raising charity Alberta Harvest.

The singer often collaborates with lead organization Canadian Harvest, and has raised more than 125,000 pounds of food on her past two Canadian tours.

Founder Stan Curtis said each concert can bring in as many as 3,000 cans of food, enough for 6,000 meals.

Hunger and homelessness are intertwined and simple problems to solve, Duff said, adding that compassion is key.

“A big misconception of charity work and celebrities is that it takes a lot of money,” she said. “It doesn’t take a lot of money. Your time is the best thing you can give.”

At the mention of reports that Duff is dating New York Islanders player Mike Comrie, the 19-year-old singer’s face brightened with a girlish grin, calling it a funny coincidence to be performing in Comrie’s hometown.

“I’m in Edmonton, he’s from Edmonton,” she said, squirming in her chair. “Some of the guys (at the shelter) asked me about him, about hockey.”

Hope Mission spokeswoman Janelle Aker said Duff’s efforts will help raise awareness with a younger demographic that might not know about the emergency shelter. Many of Duff’s fans are children.

“She stayed for the whole lunch,” Aker said. “Until the last man received his food.”

Nicole Richie Confirms she is pregnant

Nicole Richie, the girlfriend to Hilary Duff's ex-boyfriend, confirms to ABC News that she is pregnant with the child of her current boyfriend Joel Madden.

"Yes I am. We are. I’m almost four months," says Richie in an interview airing on Good Morning America Thursday and on 20/20 Friday (Aug. 2, 3)…

Richie, 25, also tells Sawyer why she pleaded guilty for an arrest stemming from a December 2006 incident in which she was spotted driving the wrong way on the freeway and admitted to police that she’d smoked pot and taken Vicodin before driving.

"I have a responsibility and it’s something that I did wrong," says Richie, "and if I could personally apologize to every single person that has lost a loved one from drunk driving I would. And unfortunately I can’t, but this is my way of paying my dues and taking responsibility and being an adult."

Richie was sentenced to four days in jail and will have to complete three years of probation and pay a $2,048 fine.

Richie, the 25-year-old adopted daughter of Lionel Richie, has been seeing the 28-year-old Madden for more than six months. She had previously dated Canadian music producer and entrepreneur Brad Salyn and was engaged to DJ AM, aka Adam Goldstein. Madden was dating tween queen turned Maxim covergirl Hilary Duff before breaking it off to start dating Richie.

Hilary Duff to co-host Teen Choice Award 2007

Hilary Duff and Nick Cannon will serve as co-hosts for the star-studded event.

She's a teen queen sensation, so it makes perfect sense that HILARY DUFF has been chosen to host Teen Choice 2007.

FOX announced on Wednesday that the 19-year-old actress/singer will co-host the event with teen heartthrob NICK CANNON on Sunday, August 26.

Hilary is certainly no stranger to the Teen Choice Awards. She hosted them once before in 2005 and has received a total of 11 Teen Choice nominations over the years for her work in TV, film and music.

Among the categories that sets this awards show apart from other ceremonies include Choice Sidekick, Choice Rumble and Choice Chemistry. Celebrities scheduled to appear include JESSICA ALBA, MILEY CYRUS, DANE COOK, ANNA PAQUIN and ASHLEE SIMPSON.

Teen Choice 2007 will air on FOX on August 26 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
